Henri Chopin and the Revue OU

‘OU’
Poésie Sonore - Poesie Konkret - Poésie Ouverte (1964 – 1974)

Fifty years ago the french poet, artist and DIY publisher HENRI CHOPIN (1922 – 2008) started an editorial experiment: the Review OU. This review "inclasable" (Henri Chopin) exploded the conventional two-dimensionality of a magazine and compiled new forms of experimental poetry - literary, visual and acoustical. A periodical 'lucky bag' filled with disparate content: loose sheets of paper, posters of various sizes, leaflets, three-dimensional poems or even handcrafted objects as well as vinyl-records to distribute the then newly developed Poésie Sonore (electronic sound poetry). Unique as a publication to date, it can be compared to Marcel Duchamps Boites-en-Valise or the Fluxkits of the Fluxus movement.

Dozens of contributors published works exclusively in the OU: visual artists such as Gianni Bertini, Man Ray, Tom Philips, Jiri Kôlar Charmoy or Hansjörg Gisiger, writers W.S. Burroughs and Brion Gysin, composers like Jacques Bekaert and Richard Orton, sound artists Annea Lockwood and Hugh Davies, Ben Vautier from the Fluxus movement as well as historical vanguards like Raoul Hausmann, Marcel Janco, Michel Seuphor, Francizka and Stefan Themerson, Marcelle Kahn and Pierre Albert-Birot, to name but a few.

With the OU exhibition the art spaces Oslo10, New Jerseyy and 1m3 are happy to offer a new outlook on Henri Chopin as a central figure of this internationally connected scene of the postwar era. Whereas Oslo10 will showcase the complete originals of the REVUE OU put together with curator Marc Matter (Institut für Feinmotorik), New Jerseyy and 1m3 will feature two curatorial perspectives on the acoustical and cinematic works of Henri Chopin.

THE EXHIBITIONS ARE RUNNING UNTIL JANUARY 24TH 2014
